Most environmental problems reach a lawyer at an awkward moment: a closure notice has arrived, a clearance has been challenged, or a polluting unit next door will not stop. We handle environmental and National Green Tribunal (NGT) work across India, for people on both sides of these disputes.

Our clients include factories and project developers who need approvals or are facing action, and residents, RWAs and farmers who are living with pollution and want it stopped. We work before the pollution boards, the environment ministry and its committees, the NGT benches, the High Courts and the Supreme Court.

The first thing we do in any matter is check the deadline. Environmental law has short time limits, especially for appeals, and a missed date can close a good case before it starts. After that, we look for the quickest route that actually solves the problem, which is often a well-prepared reply or representation to the regulator rather than litigation.

How environmental cases work

Where your matter is likely to be heard

Day-to-day enforcement is done by the State Pollution Control Board, or the Pollution Control Committee in a union territory. Boards grant consent to establish and operate, inspect units, issue directions and, in serious cases, order closure and disconnection of power and water.

Clearances for larger projects come from the environment ministry or the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) under the EIA Notification, 2006. Forest land needs approval under the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Adhiniyam, 1980.

When a dispute cannot be settled with the regulator, it usually goes to the National Green Tribunal. The NGT hears cases under seven environmental laws and can order closure, restoration and compensation. Some matters, such as wildlife offences or challenges to the validity of a law, go to the High Court instead.

Our approach

How we work on a new matter

We read the papers before we quote. In most cases we can tell you within a day what the deadline is, which forum is right and what we think the realistic outcome is. If a matter is better solved through a reply or a meeting with the regulator, we will say so, even though it is less work for us.

For industries, we look at the full compliance picture, because a notice about effluent often sits alongside an expired consent or an unfiled return. Fixing all of it at once is cheaper than dealing with each problem as it surfaces.

Step by step

What happens after you contact us

1

Send the papers

The notice, order, consent or complaint, with photographs or test reports if you have them.

2

Deadline check

We confirm the time limit and the right forum, usually the same day.

3

Plan and fee

A short written plan with the next steps and a fixed fee for that stage.

4

Drafting and filing

Reply, representation, appeal or application prepared and filed.

5

Hearings

We appear before the board, tribunal or court, in person or by video.

6

Follow-through

Compliance with the order, revocation of closure, or execution of directions.

Why us

How we work

We are a litigation and advisory practice led by Advocate BK Singh, with offices in Dwarka (New Delhi) and Vaishali (Ghaziabad), working on environmental matters across India.

  • Deadline first: we tell you the time limit before anything else.
  • Regulator and tribunal: we handle the board stage and the NGT, so nothing is lost between them.
  • Plain advice: what we think will happen, including when a case is not worth filing.
  • Written fee terms: agreed stage by stage, never linked to the outcome.
FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you handle cases outside Delhi?

Yes. We work across India. NGT filings are made online and hearings at every bench can be attended in person or by video. For pollution board work in other states, we coordinate with the regional office.

What is the difference between an environmental lawyer and an NGT lawyer?

An NGT lawyer focuses on cases before the National Green Tribunal. Environmental work is wider and includes approvals, compliance and board proceedings. We do both, which matters because most NGT cases start as a dispute with a regulator.

How long does an NGT case take?

The NGT Act asks the Tribunal to try to decide cases within six months, but many take longer, especially where committees are appointed to inspect and report. Simple appeals can be decided in a few hearings.

Can you help if I am the one accused of polluting?

Yes. A large part of our work is for industries and builders facing notices, closure or compensation demands. Everyone is entitled to answer the case against them.

Do I need to come to your office?

No. Most of our work is done over WhatsApp, email and video calls. Original documents are needed only occasionally.

How are fees fixed?

Stage by stage, in writing, before work starts. Fees are never linked to the outcome.

Have a notice, order or pollution problem?

Send it to us on WhatsApp. We will tell you the deadline and the next step.
